When working in the early years and childcare sector, it will be necessary to adopt a working method which includes sharing information about the needs of children and their families/carers. In order to ensure that this is effective, everybody will need to understand their role and responsibility to ensure a team that communicates well.
In order to achieve this, the following principles must be adopted:
The term multi-agency is used to describe the way childcare settings work closely with others to meet the needs of children and their families/carers. As well as developing skills to work with children, strategies need to be developed to be able to work with parents/carers, colleagues and other professionals.
Every child is an individual and will have different needs. Only trained professionals will be able to meet some of these needs but anyone with enough knowledge and dedication will be able to help them with other needs. It is important to understand what a variety of organisations and professionals can offer. Settings will need to work effectively with them for the benefit of children and their families/carers.
Between 20% and 30% of children will have additional needs at some point, and they may require additional help from the education service, the health service or social services.
The role of a childcare worker is to know when and how to refer children for specialist support, and also to communicate and work with professionals and external agencies such as: physiotherapists; speech and language therapists; social workers; health visitors; additional learning needs co-ordinators (ALNCo). Settings will need to work with these professionals as well as parents/carers in order to ensure that children are given the best possible opportunities. Especially if a child has development problems or is developing slowly, it is essential to ensure external assistance.
Sometimes, giving 'feedback' by explaining or describing orally is part of the work. How the child has been developing, what they have been doing or how they have responded to something may need to be stated. The 'feedback' should always be specific and will help the setting to plan and create a regular routine. It could be something simple such as telling another member of staff that the disposable gloves are low, or giving a parent/carer information about aspects that somebody has noticed.
Wrth weithio ym maes y blynyddoedd cynnar a gofal plant, bydd angen mabwysiadu dull o weithio lle mae’n ofynnol i rannu gwybodaeth am anghenion plant a’u teuluoedd/gofalwyr. I sicrhau bod hyn yn effeithiol, bydd angen i bawb ddeall eu rôl a'u cyfrifoldeb er mwyn sicrhau tîm sy’n cyfathrebu’n dda.
I gyflawni hyn, mae’n hanfodol mabwysiadu’r egwyddorion isod:
Defnyddir y term amlasiantaethol i ddisgrifio'r modd y mae lleoliadau gofal plant yn gweithio’n agos gydag eraill i ddiwallu anghenion plant a’u teuluoedd/gofalwyr. Yn ogystal â datblygu sgiliau i weithio gyda phlant, mae angen datblygu strategaethau i fedru gweithio gyda rhieni/gofalwyr, cyd-weithwyr a chyd-weithwyr proffesiynol eraill.
Mae pob plentyn yn unigolyn a bydd ganddo wahanol anghenion. Dim ond gweithwyr proffesiynol sydd wedi'u hyfforddi a fydd yn gallu diwallu rhai o'r anghenion hyn, ond gall unrhyw un sydd â digon o wybodaeth ac ymroddiad eu helpu gydag anghenion eraill. Mae'n bwysig deall beth y gall amrywiaeth o sefydliadau a gweithwyr proffesiynol eu cynnig. Bydd angen gweithio'n effeithiol gyda nhw er lles y plentyn a'u teulu/gofalwyr.
Bydd gan rhwng 20% a 30% o blant anghenion ychwanegol ar ryw adeg neu'i gilydd, ac efallai y bydd angen help ychwanegol arnynt gan y gwasanaeth addysg, y gwasanaeth iechyd neu'r gwasanaethau cymdeithasol.
Gwaith gweithiwr gofal plant yw gwybod pa bryd a sut mae cyfeirio plant at gymorth gan arbenigwyr, a hefyd i gyfathrebu a gweithio gyda gweithwyr proffesiynol ac asiantaethau allanol megis: ffisiotherapyddion; therapyddion lleferydd; gweithwyr cymdeithasol; ymwelwyr iechyd; cydgysylltwyr anghenion dysgu ychwanegol (CGADY). Mae angen gweithio gyda'r bobl broffesiynol hyn yn ogystal â rhieni/gofalwyr er mwyn sicrhau bod y plant yn cael y cyfleoedd gorau posibl. Yn enwedig os oes gan blentyn broblem o ran ei ddatblygiad neu fod ei ddatblygiad yn araf, mae'n hollbwysig sicrhau cymorth allanol.
Weithiau, mae rhoi 'adborth' sef esbonio neu ddisgrifio ar lafar yn rhan o’r gwaith. Efallai y bydd angen dweud sut y mae plentyn wedi bod yn datblygu, beth mae wedi bod yn ei wneud neu sut mae wedi ymateb i rywbeth. Dylai'r 'adborth' bob tro fod yn benodol a bydd yn help i'r lleoliad gynllunio a chreu trefn reolaidd. Gall fod yn rhywbeth syml megis dweud wrth aelod arall o'r staff bod y menig taflu'n mynd yn brin neu roi gwybodaeth i riant/gofalwr am agweddau mae rhywun wedi sylwi arnyn nhw.
