3 year old

Full day care

'Full day care' provides day care for children for a continuous period of four hours or more during any specific day at a non-domestic setting. This may include day nurseries, children's centres, some family centres and wraparound care.

Crèches

Crèches are facilities that provide occasional day care for children under 8 years old. It is provided on a specific site on more than five days a year. It can either be provided on a permanent site or a temporary site. These sites care for children whilst their parents/carers are busy.

Childminder

Registered childminders are professional childcare workers who work in their own homes to provide care and education for other people's children in a domestic setting.

Sessional Day Care

Sessional day care, which is sometimes referred to as Cylch Meithrin playgroups or pre-school playgroups, provides sessional day care and education for children. The age range of pre-school providers ranges from two to five years old.

Flying Start

Flying Start is an early years programme for families/carers with children under four years old and is targeted towards some of the most disadvantaged areas in Wales. It is an essential resource in relation to achieving the seven core aims for children and young people. The level of qualifications required to work in a Flying Start setting is higher than the national minimum standards.

The Foundation Phase

The Foundation Phase is the current curriculum for three to seven year olds in Wales. It places an emphasis on young children learning by doing and provides additional opportunities for them to have direct experiences through play and active learning. The Foundation Phase is based on the principle that early years provision should offer a firm foundation for learning in the future. It is important that childcare settings - especially those caring for three to seven year olds - are aware of the principles of the Foundation Phase and the seven areas of learning.

After school clubs

After school clubs provide childcare after school hours and provide a safe environment for children to play, relax and socialise. Some clubs that are not run by schools may be able to collect children from their school at the end of the day.

Holiday Clubs

Holiday clubs provide a wide range of play activities for children during the school holidays. Some are run by schools, whilst others are run by private or voluntary organisations. The cost of holiday clubs varies, and there is a charge per day for attendance.

Gofal dydd llawn

Mae ‘Gofal dydd llawn’ yn darparu gofal dydd i blant am gyfnod parhaus o bedair awr neu fwy yn ystod unrhyw ddiwrnod penodol ar safle nad yw’n safle domestig. Gall hyn gynnwys meithrinfeydd dydd, canolfannau plant, rhai canolfannau i deuluoedd/gofalwyr a gofal cofleidiol.

Crèches

Crèches yw’r cyfleusterau sy’n darparu gofal dydd achlysurol i blant o dan wyth oed. Mae’n cael ei ddarparu ar safle penodol ar fwy na phum niwrnod y flwyddyn. Gellir eu darparu naill ai ar safle parhaol neu ar safle dros dro. Mae’r safleoedd hyn yn gofalu am blant tra bydd eu rhieni/gofalwyr yn brysur.

Gwarchodwr plant

Mae gwarchodwyr plant cofrestredig yn weithwyr gofal plant proffesiynol sy’n gweithio yn eu cartrefi eu hunain i ddarparu gofal ac addysg i blant pobl eraill mewn lleoliad domestig.

Gofal Dydd Sesiynol

Mae gofal dydd sesiynol, y cyfeirir ato weithiau fel cylchoedd chwarae Cylch Meithrin neu gylchoedd chwarae cyn ysgol, yn darparu gofal dydd ac addysg sesiynol i blant. Mae ystod oedran darparwyr cyn ysgol yn amrywio o ddwy i bump oed.

Dechrau’n Deg

Rhaglen blynyddoedd cynnar i deuluoedd/gofalwyr â phlant o dan bedair oed yw Dechrau’n Deg ac mae wedi’i thargedu at rai o’r ardaloedd mwyaf difreintiedig yng Nghymru. Mae’n adnodd hanfodol o ran cyflawni’r saith nod craidd ar gyfer plant a phobl ifanc. Mae lefelau cymwysterau ar gyfer gweithio o fewn lleoliad Dechrau’n Deg ar lefel uwch na’r safonau gofynnol cenedlaethol.

Y Cyfnod Sylfaen

Y Cyfnod Sylfaen yw’r cwricwlwm presennol ar gyfer plant rhwng tair a saith oed yng Nghymru. Rhoddir pwyslais ar ddysgu plant ifanc drwy wneud a rhoi mwy o gyfleoedd iddynt feithrin profiadau uniongyrchol drwy chwarae a dysgu gweithredol. Mae’r Cyfnod Sylfaen yn seiliedig ar yr egwyddor y dylai darpariaeth y blynyddoedd cynnar gynnig sylfaen cadarn ar gyfer dysgu yn y dyfodol. Mae’n bwysig bod lleoliadau gofal plant - yn enwedig y rheiny sy’n gofalu am blant tair i saith oed - yn ymwybodol o egwyddorion y Cyfnod Sylfaen a’i saith maes dysgu.

Clybiau ar ôl ysgol

Mae clybiau ar ôl ysgol yn darparu gofal plant ar ôl oriau ysgol ac maen nhw’n lleoliadau diogel i blant chwarae, ymlacio a chymdeithasu. Gall rhai clybiau sydd ddim yn cael eu rhedeg gan ysgolion gasglu plant o’u hysgol ar ddiwedd y dydd.

Clybiau Gwyliau

Mae clybiau gwyliau’n darparu ystod eang o weithgareddau chwarae i blant yn ystod y gwyliau ysgol. Caiff rhai eu rhedeg gan ysgolion, tra bod eraill yn cael eu rhedeg gan sefydliadau preifat neu wirfoddol. Bydd costau’n amrywio rhwng clybiau gwyliau, ac fe godir tâl am bob dydd y bydd y plentyn yn bresennol.
