When an individual, often from a vulnerable background, is bombarded with misinformation, by an individual they know, or by the media, it can engender anger, fear, mistrust and a sense of injustice.

Pan fydd unigolyn, yn aml o gefndir agored i niwed, yn cael ei fombardio gan wybodaeth anghywir, gan unigolyn mae'n ei adnabod, neu gan y cyfryngau, gall arwain at ddicter, ofn, drwgdybiaeth ac ymdeimlad o anghyfiawnder.

This can lead the individual to believe and support extreme political, religious, or social views. This can have a negative impact upon mental health and can cause the individual to engage in harmful and illegal activities involving violence, discrimination or hate.

Individuals are more at risk of being radicalised if:

  • they feel isolated and lonely or want to feel that they belong
  • they are unhappy about themselves and what others might think of them
  • they are embarrassed or judged about their culture, gender, religion or race
  • they are depressed and feel hopeless
  • they are tired of being treated badly by other individuals or by society
  • they are angry at other individuals or the government.

Gall hyn arwain yr unigolyn i gredu a chefnogi safbwyntiau gwleidyddol, crefyddol neu gymdeithasol eithafol. Gall hyn gael effaith negyddol ar iechyd meddwl a gall achosi'r unigolyn i gymryd rhan mewn gweithgareddau niweidiol ac anghyfreithlon yn cynnwys trais, gwahaniaethu neu gasineb.

Mae mwy o risg bydd unigolion yn cael eu radicaleiddio os:

  • byddan nhw'n teimlo'n ynysig ac yn unig neu maen nhw eisiau teimlo eu bod nhw'n perthyn
  • maen nhw'n anhapus ynglŷn â'u hunain a barn eraill amdanyn nhw
  • maen nhw'n teimlo cywilydd neu'n cael eu barnu am eu diwylliant, rhywedd, crefydd neu hil
  • maen nhw'n isel eu hysbryd ac yn teimlo'n anobeithiol
  • maen nhw wedi cael llond bol o gael eu trin yn wael gan unigolion eraill neu gan gymdeithas
  • maen nhw'n flin gydag eraill neu'r llywodraeth.
